How to Make a Green Bean Casserole
Follow these steps to make your Green Bean Supreme Casserole:
- Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to the right temperature to ensure even baking.
- Blanch the Green Beans: Cook the green beans briefly in salted boiling water until they turn vibrant green, then cool them quickly in ice water to lock in their color and texture. Pat them dry before moving on.
- Cook the Base: Sauté onions, garlic, and mushrooms in butter until fragrant and softened. This step builds the foundation of flavor for the dish.
- Make the Sauce: Add cream, stock, and seasonings to the pot, letting it simmer until it thickens and becomes rich and flavorful. Blend the mixture until smooth for a creamy finish.
- Combine and Bake: Toss the green beans with the prepared sauce, then transfer everything to a baking dish. Bake until the casserole is heated through and bubbling.
- Add the Topping: Sprinkle crispy fried onions over the top and return the dish to the oven briefly to achieve a golden, crunchy finish.
- Serve and Enjoy: Let the casserole cool slightly before serving. Pair it with your favorite wine or holiday dishes for a meal to remember.
