Blt dip with tiny little breads and pinot noir wine

Fresh, Easy Avocado BLT Dip Recipe

In the South, fall is all about three words: College. Game. Day. This recipe perfect for watching the big game. It is a crowd-pleaser, and for good reason!

The original recipe, which called for lots of mayo and sour cream, was a little heavy for my taste, so I replaced half of the mayo and all of the sour cream with low fat, plain Greek yogurt. To pump up the healthy fats I also added avocado to the mix. I love the creamy texture of the avocado with the crunch of the bacon, and the color it adds to the dish!

How to Make BLT Dip

This dip comes together in just a few easy steps—and most of the time is just letting the bacon crisp up in the oven. Here’s how to build your game day MVP:

  1. Cook the bacon until crispy. Let it cool, then chop it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Chop the cherry tomatoes and set a few aside for topping later.
  3. Mix the base by combining the mayo and Greek yogurt in a bowl.
  4. Stir in most of the tomatoes and all the chopped bacon, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Spread the mixture into your serving dish.
  6. Top with chopped avocado, followed by shredded romaine and the remaining tomatoes.
  7. Serve with whole wheat melba toast, crackers, or whatever dipper you love.

Since BLT’s are traditionally served on toast, I like to serve this dip with whole wheat melba toast. However, it takes just as good with most crackers, tortilla chips, or even pretzel chips!

Substitutions & Additions

This dip is super adaptable, so don’t stress if you need to swap an ingredient or want to add your own twist:

  • No Greek yogurt? Use light sour cream or full-fat plain yogurt for a similar tangy base.
  • Don’t love mayo? Skip it altogether and just use more yogurt or even mashed avocado for an extra-creamy, dairy-free version.
  • Try different greens. Not a romaine fan? Use arugula or finely chopped spinach for a peppery or earthy flavor.
  • Want more heat? Stir in a dash of hot sauce or sprinkle chopped jalapeños on top.
  • Cheese lovers, rejoice. Crumbled feta or shredded cheddar make a tasty topping.
  • Make it heartier. Add finely diced grilled chicken or turkey bacon to turn this dip into a protein-packed snack.

Make-Ahead & Storage Tips

If you're hosting for game day or prepping ahead for a party, this dip is easy to make in advance with a few simple tweaks. Mix the base—Greek yogurt, mayo, bacon, and tomatoes—ahead of time and keep it in the fridge until you're ready to serve. For the freshest flavor and best texture, wait to add the avocado and lettuce just before serving. The dip holds up well for a day or two when stored in an airtight container, though the avocado may brown slightly. A quick stir and a sprinkle of fresh lettuce or tomato on top can help revive it if needed.

BLT dip with Pinot Noir wine

Pairing BLT Dip with Wine

This creamy, crunchy, flavor-packed dip is practically made for wine pairing. With the richness of avocado and bacon, plus a pop of brightness from tomatoes, a crisp white wine is a natural match.

La Crema’s Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is a top pick here. It offers citrusy brightness and just enough creaminess to complement the tangy yogurt and mayo blend. The wine’s balanced acidity cuts through the dip’s richness, while stone fruit and subtle oak flavors play beautifully with the fresh ingredients.

If you prefer something a bit lighter, La Crema’s Monterey Pinot Gris is another great call. With notes of lemon zest, pear, and a refreshing mineral finish, it keeps things vibrant and refreshing — just what you want with a game-day dip that disappears fast. Both wines are part of La Crema’s portfolio of top-rated releases known for elegance, balance, and a true sense of place.

Whether you're hosting a tailgate or keeping things casual at home, a chilled glass of Chardonnay or Pinot Gris brings the whole spread together.
