Los Carneros Vineyard landscape

Los Carneros

Shared by Sonoma County and Napa Valley, Los Carneros is one of the coldest winegrowing regions in both areas. Nestled in the foothills of the Mayacamas Range and bordering the San Pablo Bay, it features rolling hills, rocky soils, and wide-open skies.

Afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay, known as the “Carneros Express,” sweep through the vineyards, creating a cool-climate haven for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. While often called “Napa’s Burgundy,” Los Carneros also produces Rhône varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Fun fact: its name, Spanish for “the rams,” dates back to the 1830s when Mexico administered the area.

Chardonnay Characteristics

Known for its vibrant acidity and lush fruit flavors, Los Carneros Chardonnay reflects the region's cool, breezy climate. La Crema's opulent expression delivers rich lemon custard flavor, juicy tangerine, and golden kiwi notes.

Pinot Noir Characteristics

Esteemed for its elegance and depth, Los Carneros Pinot Noir balances vibrant fruit and earthy complexity. La Crema’s supple expression offers lingering notes of dark fruit, black tea, and cocoa.

Look to the Hills

In Los Carneros, many of the finest vineyard sites, where La Crema sources its fruit, are located in the foothills cascading from the Mayacamas Range. The elevation, paired with thin, well-drained soils that naturally limit vine vigor, imparts serious structural integrity to both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, setting these wines apart from those grown in the lower-lying areas.
