Hosting Made Effortless, Beautiful & Personal

A year-long collaboration with Amber Mayfield Hewett, celebrating modern hosting through every season. Perfection is out, joy is in, and the only thing that matters is gathering with an open heart and a curious mind. And anyone—everyone!—can do it.

A Letter From A Host to A Host

Hey Party People!

My name is Amber. I’m the founder of the event company, To Be Hosted, the creator of While Entertaining on Substack, and the author of the forthcoming home entertaining book, Your Turn to Host!

Ten years ago, I started planning parties and hosting a supper club because living in NYC was sometimes very lonely. Hosting dinner parties, house parties, and telling my friends to “just come over” was how I built deeper relations with the friends I now call family. It’s how I grew my village, and it’s how I built a life filled with plenty of time to play as hard as I work.

Now, more than ever, people talk about feeling lonely, missing third spaces, and craving genuine community. I believe hosting is a solution. Invite people over for Sunday supper. Rally a crew for game night. Organize the next potluck. I believe this is how we keep our loved ones close and make our communities stronger. Here you will find a brief guide with hosting tips to get you started. All tips are served up alongside my favorite wines.

Happy Hosting!

Anatomy of a Good Shindig

There is really no such thing as "effortless" entertaining. There is just effort that is made long before you are under the watchful eye of your guests, making way for you to enjoy the party, too. Planning ahead, and planning thoughtfully is your key to success.

Ditch the "perfection" pressure and learn to host gatherings where the wine flows as naturally as the conversation. From WNBA watch parties to cozy holiday open houses, Amber Mayfield Hewett shares her expert playbook for turning your living room into the neighborhood’s favorite third space.
